§ 1-126. Holidays.

  • (a)

    The following holidays are to be observed in Ouachita Parish by police jury employees:

    (1)

    January 1 .....New Year's Day

    (2)

    Third Monday in January .....Martin Luther
         King's Birthday

    (3)

    Friday before Easter .....Good Friday

    (4)

    Fourth Monday in May .....Memorial Day

    (5)

    July Fourth .....Independence Day

    (6)

    First Monday in September .....Labor Day

    (7)

    Fourth Thursday and
    following Friday in November .....Thanksgiving Day and
         Following Friday

    (8)

    December 24th and 25th .....Christmas Eve and
         Christmas Day

    (b)

    As many employees as possible shall be given each holiday off consistent with the maintenance of essential parish functions.

    (c)

    Full-time regular employees shall be entitled to paid holidays.

    (d)

    Part-time regular employees who would normally have worked on a day of the week observed as a holiday shall be entitled to holidays with pay for the number of hours they would have worked on that day if the holiday had not occurred.

    (e)

    Temporary and seasonal employees who would normally have worked on a day of the week observed as a holiday may be granted unpaid holidays.

    (f)

    Full-time regular and part-time regular employees, who work on an official holiday as directed, shall be paid for the time worked in addition to regular holiday pay, or shall be given equivalent compensatory time off as administratively determined.

    (g)

    If the holidays fall on a Saturday, employees will not work on Friday. If they should fall on a Sunday, they will not work the following Monday. Also, if New Year's Eve and Christmas Eve fall during the work week, they will be considered holidays.

    (h)

    An employee in leave-of-absence-without-pay status on the holiday, or on the scheduled work day immediately preceding or following, shall not receive pay for the holiday.

    (i)

    Employees desiring to observe religious holidays, not coinciding with official holidays, may be given time off without pay, or may be authorized to use accrued vacation leave.

    (j)

    Department heads shall ensure that full-time regular employees working unusual schedules or on shifts, receive benefits of the full number of official paid holidays.
