§ 21.5-91. Street types.

  • (1)

    Arterial street. A general term denoting a street or major thoroughfare primarily used for through traffic, carrying heavy loads and a large volume of traffic, usually on a continuous route.

    (2)

    Collector street. A thoroughfare which primarily carries traffic from local streets to arterial streets and highways.

    Collector streets shall be provided to collect traffic from minor streets and feed it into major streets or to important generators of traffic.

    (3)

    Local street. A street primarily used for providing access to residential, commercial, or other property.

    (a)

    Cul-de-sac: A local street less than five hundred (500) feet in length with one end open to traffic and the other end terminating in a vehicular turnaround.
