Article II. PERSONNEL POLICIES |
Division 2. EMPLOYEE PLACEMENT |
§ 1-63. Promotion.
(a)
A "promotion" is the assignment of an employee from a position in one class to a position in another class having a higher maximum salary.
(b)
It shall be parish policy to provide promotional opportunities to qualified employees, whenever possible. The personnel director may limit a selection process to qualified parish employees or may allow such employees preference in application and/or consideration.
(c)
A newly promoted employee shall not be subject to a formal probationary period. However, such employee may be returned to his/her former position within forty-five (45) days after promotion, when in the judgement of the supervisor, the employee's fitness and/or quality of work are not such as to merit continuation in the higher level position. Such action must be approved by the personnel officer and shall not be considered disciplinary, or eliminate the employee from consideration for later advancement.
(d)
A newly promoted employee shall be compensated at the step and range as recommended by the department head and approved by the Ouachita Parish Police Jury.
