§ 5-3.1. Witness fee for court attendance of law enforcement officers.

  • Each law enforcement officer, who, because of his official connection with any criminal case as the arresting officer or in some other capacity, is required to be present as a witness in any criminal case which is being tried in any district court during any time when he is otherwise not required to report to work or perform the duties of his job, shall be paid witness fees in the amount of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per day for each case for which his presence in court is required and for which he was present. In no case, however, shall an officer be allowed more than fifty dollars ($50.00) in any one day regardless of the number of cases for which he was required to be present.

    In all cases prosecuted under ordinances of the Parish of Ouachita or laws of the State of Louisiana in the district court situated in Ouachita Parish, there shall be taxes as costs against every defendant so prosecuted and convicted, after trial or after a plea of guilty, the sum of five dollars ($5.00) in addition to all other fines, costs and forfeitures lawfully imposed which sum shall be remitted to the Ouachita Parish police jury to be placed in a fund established for the inclusive purpose of defraying the cost of law enforcement officers' witness fees.
